Hobbit in Prague
Wendell will probably talk anout what a great hostel Hostel Elf was, but it was pretty grotty. The youth to toilet/shower ratio was pretty high. There were some youth that got up early to see Prague, but a lot that never seemed to leave the hostel arising at 5 or 6 in the evening and being ready to go out and find a party at about 11PM. Wendell was hanging out with the youth and when mentioning his lovely wife got looks of incomprehension. I guess the youth just can't imagine there being a married couple in the hostle. I noticed that there were a lot of signs telling the youth to go out and see Prague. Maybe they should consider a mid day lock-out.
We got up early and went running across the town bridges, six of them. After a shower we went to see the Hapsburg palace and the old town. Prague is pretty neat if you look past all the apray paint graffatti. The beauty of so many years of Soviet neglect means that stuff was left alone so now you've got this 1400 year old cith that is relatively unchanged. All the streets and sidewalks are made up of stone tile in colors and patterns. Very pretty.
The locals are of a capatilist mind. I bought a basket of strawberries from a farmers market. I handed him a 1000.00 KC, he handed me some coins. As I turned around to hand Wendell the change Wendell saw his face light up as if to say "cool! She's buying a 900.00 KC (about $30.00) basket of strawberries. So then I turned back and held out my hand. He slowly handed me some 100.00 KC. As I turned around to hand Wendell these bills Wendell saw his face light up as if to say "cool, she's buying a 500.00 KC (about $15.00) basket of Strawberries!" So then I turned around and stuck out my hand and he veeeery slooowly handed me a 500.00 KC with a dissapointed look on his face. That's the 'slow change' trick failing to work.

Hobbit And The Lion On The Charles Bridge
A Quick PhotoOp
We decided to walk over ot the Frank Gehry designed Fred and Ginger building to check it out. As we approached, we saw a couple of police cars and officers finishing up the paperwork on a fender-bender accident (note police cars in lower right of the photo.)
I snapped a couple of photos and, as I prepared to cross the street, I looked down and spotted a Czech license plate in the middle of the street. Thinking quickly, I crossed the street, scooping up the license plate in the process. Hobbit was prety nervous because of all the Czech police - she was convinced that we would be sent to a special "Tourists Who Steal License Places" prison. I carried the plate around a courner and, out of view of the police, tucked it in my bag.
